The Story

Emer has always wished for quiet, but when a mysterious illness plagues her father, she forsakes the security of her meadow and embarks on a perilous journey in search of a cure before it is too late.
Her destination - Isle Basalt. Where magic, monsters, and a Well of healing await.

Nothing on the Isle is as it seems, and the lines between friend and foe grow murky in the shadows cast by old secrets brought to light.

As the cure draws nearer, Emer learns that facing her fears is the least of what she is willing to do. Will she reach the Well and finally find quiet beyond it, or will she discover she should have been more careful with what she wished for?

For love and loss can make monsters of us all.

What Readers Are Saying

“CW Wren’s mastery of small details and imperfectly perfect characters grips you from the first page and never lets you go. And by never I do mean never. It’s still with me long after I turned the final page!”

— Katie

“You will be left with few or no fingernails left and a terrible terrible book hangover that will leave you begging for more.”

— Brittany

“From the first line to the end it had me completely enveloped in this beautiful, tragic, real, magical, hilarious at times, brutal most of the time, visceral universe that I just do not want to leave.”

— Oz

“With sobering clarity, she realized that with every fear of hers having come to pass, there was nothing left to be afraid of. She had fallen to the bottom of the abyss, and here, not even the monsters could find her. It was there that she found the will to climb.”
